Town of Rotterdam Budget Session
The session served as an informational presentation regarding the 2027 tentative budget. The administration detailed how a $1.4 million deficit was inherited from a previous budget, which was attributed to artificially inflated revenue projections and underfunded expenditure lines. Key discussion areas included rising contractual costs such as labor wages, health insurance, debt service, and pension obligations. The presentation addressed specific budget discrepancies, including over-projected revenue sources like court fines and permit fees, and under-budgeted essential expenses like police overtime and vehicle replacement. The administration emphasized the importance of using historical data to build realistic future budgets and noted that savings were utilized to balance the budget in line with established practices.
