The council held a budget workshop to review and discuss the proposed Fiscal Year 2027 Budget. The primary focus of the discussion included evaluating budgetary requests, addressing specific concerns, and identifying strategies to ensure the budget remains balanced and functional for all town departments and employees.
The meeting focused on the codification of the Town of Yemassee Zoning Ordinance, which aims to centralize town regulations on a single platform. Additionally, a public hearing was conducted regarding a zoning map amendment for the Gatch Tracts, specifically rezoning to Residential 1/4 Acre (R4A), following concerns about a previous general residential proposal. The Town Administrator also provided project status updates regarding construction on Jinks Street, water and sewer projects, proposed development on Likita Lane, and Upland Pines signage.
The Council discussed several key items, including a resolution for an intergovernmental agreement regarding law enforcement services with the City of North Myrtle Beach and multiple rezoning requests for various parcels of land in Hampton County to change their designation to Regional Commercial District. Additionally, the Council approved an annexation of land into the town limits, adopted updated FEMA Floodplain Maps, and established new ordinances for park rules and event reservations. Reports were provided on building permits, water and sewer grant projects, and upcoming festival preparations. An executive session was held to discuss personnel matters, with no resulting action taken.
